Gold Coast mains water is treated to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and is safe to drink — filtration here is mostly about taste, chlorine and sediment rather than safety. That changes on tank water. A lot of properties out through Nerang, Carrara and the western fringe run partly or entirely on rainwater, and roof-collected water picks up debris, organic matter and whatever the local birdlife contributes. Those systems genuinely need filtration and, in most cases, UV sterilisation.
